My self from just three years ago would holler and whine at what I'm about to write (and I still understand the reasons behind that anguish, but lo! I'm older now):
I just sat down and made a to-do list, which I've been doing since midway through my first year at the Indy. When working at the Indy, I generally kept my to-do lists to under eight items if I could. Three to five was optimal, but sometimes it just couldn't be helped.
When, two weeks ago, I was let out on my own with no day job to make lists for, I decided to make them for my own company, Grass Dog Studio, and since I was home all day, I'd work in a few chores as well.
The first week went great! I got a lot of designing done, programming, and quite a few house hold cleaning tasks. Last week was a bit more stressful. I created perhaps some of my best work, but didn't meet even half my goals.
Thing is, my to-do lists had expanded to 10 or 13 items! I could either get them all half done, or get less than half done.
So, I timed my tasks on Thursday and found something interesting. It generally took me two hours to draw something decent, and then I had to switch to another drawing for sanity's sake (as well as for good customer service).
So I came up with those time blocks. They're based, actually, on my ideal class schedule! A mix between college and High School. There's just enough time between each time block to get random stuff done around the house or for business purposes. And there's just enough time within each block to get some serious shit done.
And guess what?
Making a to-do list based on those blocks is so much less stressful!
It's just seven items long. Four jobs and three chores.
I'm not going to be meeting the goals I'd like to be able to make tomorrow, but what I'd like to do is just damn near impossible. It does, however, look like it's going to pan out to be a pretty fun and productive day. Relaxed even, if I tackle it right.*
...
My inner teenager is futilely applying salsa to the bars right now.
* This is assuming, of course, that I don't get sick, bored, or end up craving foods that I can't have. I'm easily derailed under those circumstances. |

Cause beatonna Said soAlso, Cheers to azahru for sending me my contributor copy of her Songs,Dreams and Nightmares, with my three pager and really only comicing I've done. No I don't count the Mojo & Fuzz comics cause they were stupid. It's a lovely comic of all her collaborations. Looks pretty darn spiffy. In other news, my Comikaze 24 hour entry won people's choice for 16 page mature. Not that I do it to win, but cheers to those who voted. |
